Arctic Engineering was selected to perform the installation of the HVAC equipment, piping, plumbing, and ductwork portion of the largest construction project in the history of Valparaiso University. This new 2-story facility, with 1 floor under grade, was constructed to centralize all student services; living room style lounges, book center, convenience store, central mail station, large dining room, small café, informal recreation areas, fire place lounge, and a large ballroom for lectures and concerts.

Equipment installation for this 202,000 square foot facility consisted of:(5) Air Handling Units
(6) Boilers with associated pumps
(9) Liebert Cooling Units
(1) Glycol Feed System
(2) 1oo ton Chillers
(2) Hot Water Heaters
(1) Fireplace
(2) Relief Fans

Underground ductwork
Arctic’s portion of the project was coordinated through our CAD department. The entire project was very time sensitive; proper coordination and effective communication was vital for success. Arctic fulfilled all requirements contractual and ahead of schedule.

In addition to the permanent heating and cooling equipment installation, Arctic was responsible for arranging and supplying temporary cooling and heating as it was needed to control temperature in the spaces during construction.

Our Plumbing Division, in an effort to obtain LEED ranking for this project, utilized duriron for two kitchen grease waste system piping configurations and used oakum for the joints. They also installed a grey water reclamation system on the garbage disposal system used in the kitchen and installed waterless urinals. The project was awarded a LEED Silver certification.
